SCOPRI DI PIù
Strolling through the centre of Turin, it is impossible not to be charmed by its historic galleries: authentic covered passages that combine architecture, elegance and collective memory. The Galleria Subalpina, opened in 1874, links Piazza Castello and Piazza Carlo Alberto. Eclectic in style, with iron and glass structures, it evokes the atmosphere of Parisian galleries. It has always been a place to meet and take a break, among shop windows and historic cafés. The Galleria San Federico, built in the 1930s, connects Via Roma to Via Bertola. Characterised by a T-shaped layout, splendid columns and glass ceilings, it houses the Cinema Lux and elegant shops, and it was the first historic headquarters of the daily newspaper La Stampa. Finally, the Galleria Umberto I, built at the end of the 19th century, stands on the site of the former Mauriziano Hospital. Designed by Lorenzo Rivetti, it connects Via della Basilica to the Porta Palazzo market, with its T-shaped gallery housing shops, cafés and a historic pharmacy. These covered places express the elegant and reserved soul of Turin, where history and modernity live side by side in the understated style of the Savoy city.
