SCOPRI DI PIù
Built in the 18th century, Palazzo Alfieri di Sostegno is a fine example of noble Baroque architecture, characterised by an imposing façade with a monumental portal supported by two telamons that hold up the central balcony. The south side features elegant, terraced gardens, designed according to scenographic criteria that unite nature and architecture. The interior, richly decorated with stuccoes, frescoes and coffered ceilings, is now home to the Museo dij Subièt, dedicated to traditional Piedmontese whistles. The museum houses over a thousand examples, both ancient and modern, including the whistle used by the royal guards in the 19th century. These small ceramic objects became the symbol of the Moncalieri protest in 1864, when the city reacted with irony and determination to the transfer of the capital of Italy from Turin to Florence. Today, the palace not only stands as a testimony to the local aristocracy but is also a living place that conveys the voice of the people and the strength of Moncalieri's cultural identity.
